HIPPOLYTE BELLANGÉ (1800-1866); Bellangé began his career as a French military artist at a young age and under the tutelage of Baron Antoine Jean Gros, the noted painter of Napoleon's Grande Armée. He worked as a painter and lithographer producing series of colored and black and white uniform prints for a growing popular market in early and mid-nineteenth century France. His most popular subjects were the French armies of his own time (the Restoration and the July Monarchy) and a series of prints covering the French armies of the Revolution and First Empire printed in 1844.A set of 49 prints covering the army of Napoleon I of France originally done circa 1847
