The French Army of
the 17th Century By Philip Cranz
23 plates from the Marbot Series
We do not presume in this 50 page book to cover the complete history of the French armies of Louis XIII and Louis XIV. We instead concentrate on 23 plates made from the first run hand colored lithographs published by Alexandré de Marbot in France between 1840 and 1860. The original plates when they can be found now garner over $100 U.S. each. In addition to their monetary value they are and have been since their publication, the most respected and valuable resource we have on the French army from 1500-1789.
Each plate is accompanied by notes and observations.
