The Russian Army of the Napoleonic Wars By Peter Sorensen
26 Pages of text and 20 color plates. RELEASE DATE – September 30

Russian opposition to the French Revolution and later Napoleon ranged from lukewarm to violent. Czar Paul I involved his armies in two indecisive campaigns one with the Austrians and another with the British. After his assassination in 1801 Alexander I came to the throne and although initial desire to take on the Emperor was weak he joined the 3rd Coalition in 1805. The result was the catastrophe of Austerlitz and following the invasion of Prussia in 1806 and the destruction of Frederick-William III’s army at Jena/ Auerstadt the Russians faced Napoleon in 1807 at Eylau and Friedland .. both defeats.
The humiliating Treaty of Tilsit which followed would last until 1812 when Napoleon invaded Russia on suspicion that Alexander would combine with Austria against him. The disaster that ensued is well recorded. This book chronicles the history of the Russian Army of the period along with remastered illustrations from Knötel and Bruce Bassett-Powell.
