The Army of Württemberg in the Napoleonic Wars By Bruce Bassett-Powell
27 Pages of text and 23 color plates.

Württemberg was an impoverished Duchy in the Swabian district on the upper Rhine in Germany. During the French Revolution it supplied troops to the Empire (Austria) and was invaded and occupied by the French. In 1806 Napoleon made the duchy a Kingdom and created a loyal ally who supplied troops to the Emperor for most of his campaigns including the disastrous invasion of Russia. As a result thousands of Württembergers never saw their homeland again, but despite such losses Württemberg would be one of the last to desert the Emperor in 1813. The history and formation of the Württemberg army is explained in detail along with extensive uniform details regiment by regiment. In the Uniformenkünde, Knötel makes an exhaustive study of this army during the Napoleonic period and devoted 14 plates to the subject, which we show in total. The Württemberg army of this time was also recorded in detail by Lienhart & Humbert, whose work we also include.
