Rare Richard Knötel prints of the Armies of Europe Ca. 1900: Austria, France, Russia, England and Italy.

In all my research I have not seen these prints published elsewhere. They are very detailed for their size and include numerous figures (all captioned). For the student of 19th Century armies or the late colonial period this set is a real find. Of particular note are the field uniform plates of the Austrians, Russians, and the rarest of all the Italians.

Cat. No. UL 8 plates $8.95

The prints are ( from top to bottom):

  1. Austrian Guard Regiment Officers- the Officers are dressed for service in Vienna
  2. Austrian Field Uniforms - a super prints showing the differences in the German and Hungarian Infantry uniforms in the field
  3. French Field Uniforms- this prints includes units from the line and the Army of Africa, of particular note is the mounted figure in the center of the print- a mounted Gendarme of the Army of Africa, this is the only source we know of for this uniform.
  4. French Field Uniforms- French troops in the field.
  5. Russian Field Uniforms- these two prints offer great documentation of the Russian Army at the beginning of the reign of Czar Nicholas II. The troops wear the reformed uniforms before changes were made after 1900. These field uniforms were of the type that would have been worn during the Boxer Rebellion in China.
  6. Russian Field Uniforms- see above
  7. English Dress and Field Uniforms- many English infantry and cavalry uniforms are illustrated here.
  8. Italian Field Uniforms- there are not too many illustrations of the Italian field uniforms of the late 19th Century. The white trousers on the Bersaglieri and infantrymen indicate summer dress. The cavalry trooper at the far left wears a campaign cover on his shako. These are also as would have been worn during the Boxer Rebellion and the relief of the Peking Legations.
