This is an interesting pictorial showing the development of a German Artillery regiment and how its various components amalgamated to form a single regiment in 1885.  Primarily made up of units that were originally from Electoral Hesse (Hessen-Kassel) and Nassau.  These two entities were independent members of the German Federation of 1815-1866.  Both were annexed by Prussia in 1867 after siding with Austria in the Seven Weeks War of 1866.
